Is this the reason why people think Americans are tall?

Some people say that it's because of our celebrities, particularly our sportsmen. I'm sure that's part of it but I think another reason is the size of our homes and vehicles. If you've ever been to a European or Asian country you'd notice that the average home and car is much smaller because they have less space. Only rich people live in large suburban houses like many Americans do and I think this gives the illusion that the American people are bigger as well.

That's an interesting theory but Europeans don't see us as a tall people. They see us as big, as in fat, and sadly we are fat compared to the average European, especially our women. It is the Asians and people from third world countries who think we're tall.

The British are just as fat as we are but you're right about other Europeans. For instance in Italy the women are very slim, which is very odd considering all the pasta they eat.

Americans aren't thought of as tall, honestly. The tall stereotypes always go to the Dutch or Scandinavians. Only some people from 3rd world countries think Americans are tall, but they would think the same for any Western country. Personally I have never met anyone who implied Americans were giant
