Funny how everyone's over 6 feet on the internet

I post on a bunch of forums like bb, neogaf, gamespot, ign, sherdog and straightdope. A discussion about height comes up every once in a while and I notice that almost all of the users claim to be over 6 feet. Not only that but a significant portion of them (say 25%) claim to be 6'2" or taller! It's easy to see why posters from BB and martial arts forums lie so much about their height but you'd expect the posters on gaming forums to be more honest about their height.

No wonder people (especially women) think men under 6 feet (especially under 5'10) are short.

There's no incentive to be honest. If you say you're under 5'10, you will be harassed and called a "manlet"

It gets ridiculous. So many people are convinced that the average is 6 feet, that it's easy for average height guys to get insecure even though they never felt short to begin with reading about it. I was 5'8 at 18-19 and didn't feel short at all, even though it's claimed to be "tiny" , and most 6 footers are really 5'10-5'11.

I agree OP. 6 feet tall is not "average" in almost all countries for men. Most men are hovering around the 5'9"-5'10" which is not visibly short. Most guys will inflate their heights so it seems like 6 footers are common but in reality it's not.

I was once on a forum with two different height threads across 3 years. It was funny to see the claims change. One dude boosted himself from 5'9 to 6'.

I hate that. Dudes need to stop making guys under 6 ft look bad. I don’t ever lie about my height like that. That’s immoral.

Yeah. When I go for my for my daily walk I might see 2 people as tall as I am or more out of the hundreds I come across, but on such threads on multiple different message boards half of the posters are 6'2-6'4  Rolleyes
