Forearms are tiny, does this means I will grow?
#1
Hey everyone

I'm a 17 (almost 18) years old 5'7" men and I started to worry about my height recently when I noticed my little brother catching up on height...he is now something like 5'6" tall and it's only a matter of time before he becomes taller than me...

But I was wondering if it was possible for me to grow a little bit more? My forearms are very small and skinny, and I heard it's possible to know if you're done growing while doing an echography. So maybe my forearms are skinny because I will grow again...? Also, I still don't have a beard, but my facial hair is starting to grow recently.

I grew a lot when I was 14 then a little bit more when I was 15, then I almost completely stopped. I think I was 5'65 when I was 16 and now I'm almost 18 and I stand at 5'7 only...

I'm not dreaming I know I'll never reach 5'10 but if I could get a few more cms to be 5'8 or 5'9 that would be awesome and I won't complain anymore... I mean, being 5'7 is a little bit boring and depressing when you see like 1 girl out of 3 is about your height or even taller.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't think our forearms are a good indicator of our growth. Chest hair (if your ethnic group and male relatives have it) and your beard are the best indicators if you ask me. You said your facial hair has started growing recently so you might grow a little more, but don't count on it because most men are done growing taller at that age.

Anyway 5'7" is short but it's not dwarf height either. Less than 20% of American women are 5'7" or taller actually (that's less than 1 out of 5 females):

We don't know where he lives, though. 5'7 is only short in super tall countries like the US and Netherlands.

What are you smoking?

1) The US isn't super tall, the Netherlands is.

2) 5'7" is short in almost all "western" nations.

5'7 is nowhere near short in Italy, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Malta, Cyprus, etc. And not everyone lives in the West.

And a country with a 5'9-5'10 average is pretty tall in a world where the average man is 5'5-5'6

Nowhere near short? It's on the lower end of average or shorter in all of the countries you mentioned, and those are the shortest western countries.

No shit, genius. He said he feels short at 5'7" and his English is great so it's reasonable to assume that he's from a western country.

Sure but all Northern European countries and others like Poland, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro are taller than the US, so it's not a super tall country, just tall. I don't know why you mentioned it along with the Netherlands.

Darkdwarf... I grew a beard years after I stopped growing taller so lack of facial hair is not a good indicator either imo. The only way to know for sure if you're still growing is to check your growth plates (I believe they use x-ray not ultrasound like you're suggesting).

@Lambo The average height in those countries is nothing above 5'7. The younger generation is a bit taller, but 5'7 is still very close even then

Thanks for answering guys I live in France and here the average height for a men is something like 5.8 I would say. I'm lucky to not live on the Netherlands or in the US otherwise I would really be shorter than anyone else.

However you talked about growth plates, I recently did an x-ray session for my knees because I had knee pain in the past, do you think I can see if my growth plates with an x-ray of my knees?

I have never heard of it but I suppose the physician should be able to tell if your growth plates are closed by looking at the x-rays of your knees. Usually they check your wrist.

Don't make me laugh. The average Greek and Spaniard are definitely taller than 5'7". And mainlands Italians are not that short either. I can buy 5'7" for Sicilians but not them.

Fair enough. But the claim that French people are shorter than Americans is false. Both countries average 5'9.

Huh? Where did I say that French people are shorter than Americans?
